I am an experienced solicitor advocate and mediator.  I have worked in the law since 2003 almost entirely within litigation.

Currently I work for BWL Consulting Ltd, in their London office where I head their dispute resolution practice.  

In 2019 I passed the Higher Rights - Civil qualification, and qualified as a solicitor advocate.  This allows me to appear on behalf of clients in the higher courts in England and Wales.

In addition to my work in litigation I am also an accredited mediator. I am a strong believer in the benefits of mediation as a method of resolving disputes. My Master’s dissertation was on the subject of compulsory mediation in civil litigation in England and Wales. 

Experience

I practice mainly in the areas of general commercial and construction litigation, however I have had experience in a wide range of disputes including group litigation; company and partnership disputes; and banking and regulatory investigations.  I have extensive experience litigating in the High and County Courts as well as pursing matters through arbitration; adjudication; and mediation.  

I am experienced working as a lead solicitor or as part of a team.  I have worked on site with many clients.  I have experience of working in private practice, as a self employed consultant and as an in house solicitor and have worked on disputes in the England and Wales; the USA; Germany; Saudi Arabia and Australia.

I am experienced advocate in the County Court and have obtained Higher Rights of Audience, allowing me to appear in the higher courts.  I am an accomplished mediation advocate and have also acted as an adjudicator on the CEDR Aviation Adjudication Scheme and the Code for Home Builders Independent Dispute Resolution Scheme.

In non contentious matters I am experienced in dealing with most standard form building contracts (including JCT, NEC and RIBA), and adept at drafting commercial agreements.

During my practice as a solicitor and solicitor advocate, my experience has included the following:

Construction

• Advising a UK based developer on contractual documents arising from a USD300m development in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
• Acting for the employer in a £1.3m arbitration arising from the termination of the contractor.
• Acting for a contractor in an adjudication arising out the value of the works at a dock redevelopment.
• Acting for an Employer in an adjudication over defective flooring at a warehouse.
• Acting for a modular building subcontractor in a series of interim payment application adjudications.
• Mediation advocate for homeowners in a dispute with a national building company over a defects in a new build property.

Commercial

• Acting for the claimants in Abbott & Ors v RCI [2016] EWHC 2602 (CH).
• Acting for property owners in a claim for breach of contract with letting agents.

Company / Partnership

• Acting for one partner in a High Court  dispute with his other partners over the proceeds from the licensing of intellectual property.
• Acting for a shareholder in a dispute over the wrongful transfer of a shareholding.
• Acting for the claimant in a claim for specific performance of a share sale agreement.

Insolvency

• Appearing on behalf of the Respondent in the Insolvency and Companies Court opposing an application to injunct the presentation of a winding up petition.

Property

• Acting for a property owner in a claim for rectification of the Land Registry following a failure to properly register the title during the conveyancing process.
